The classical beauty of Art Nouveau

Art Nouveau appeared in a wide variety of strands, and, consequently, it is known by various names, such as the Glasgow Style, or, in the German-speaking world, Jugendstil.
Art Nouveau was aimed at modernizing design, seeking to escape the eclectic historical styles that had previously been popular. Artists drew inspiration from both organic and geometric forms, evolving elegant designs that united flowing, natural forms resembling the stems and blossoms of plants.
The emphasis on linear contours took precedence over color, which was usually represented with hues such as muted greens, browns, yellows, and blues.

In jewelry, René Lalique, Louis Comfort Tiffany, and Marcel Wolfers created some of the most prized pieces of the turn of the century, producing everything from earrings to necklaces to bracelets to brooches, thereby assuring that Art Nouveau would always be associated with fin-de-siecle luxury, despite the hope that its ubiquity might make it universally accessible.

I have seen many trees of life but hers are quite unique, I really like them!

This tree of life necklace is made with a large agate slab. The design is wire wrapped to the face with copper wire, the pair of three trees making a unique landscape. This is a large statement necklace which is also perfect to display as an autumn decoration.

The tree of life design is wire wrapped in copper wire so will continue to tarnish naturally over time but any excess tarnishing can be polished away with a silver polishing cloth.

It tree measures approximately 84mm (3.30in) at it's widest point and 46mm (1.81in) in height. It come with a waxed cotton cord necklace which fastens with a hook clasp. Total necklace length is approximately 18''.

This is a lovely Spirit Quartz specimen that I turned into a pendant using the long process of copper electroforming. It takes between 12-24 hours to make. I added a Rainbow Moonstone for added flair. The pendant hangs from a chocolate vegan suede cord.

Pendant measures 2 3/8 inches tall including the loop, and approx. 3/4 inch wide at the widest part.
Cord measures approx. 29 inches long.

Made entirely of sterling - embossed, textured and tumbled for metal strength. This totem has been hand sawn and hand crafted in my little studio. Finished with a coarse steel brush to add texture, a dark patina has also been hand applied then buffed to a warm sheen to make the details pop. two gorgeous chrysoprase beads finish this handcrafted totem, hangs on a 16" sterling chain.

Simple, rustic and touched by a bit of lunar magic.

Herkimer Diamonds - What are they?

Nowadays more and more people are choosing silver over gold and more affordable gems over diamonds. One name that popped up in a search I was doing was "Herkimer Diamonds". At a price of less than $50 for a necklace, it seems quite affordable. So, what is a Herkimer Diamond?

Herkimer diamonds are not actually diamonds, but are double-terminated quartz crystals of exceptional clarity (water-clear) discovered within exposed outcrops of dolostone in and around Herkimer County, New York and the Mohawk River Valley. The "diamond" in their name is due to both their clarity and natural faceting - crystals possess double termination points and 18 total facets (six on each point, six around the center). Because the first discovery sites were in the village of Middleville and in the city of Little Falls, respectively, the crystal is also known as a Middleville diamond or a Little Falls diamond.

Herkimer diamonds became widely recognized after workmen discovered them in large quantities while cutting into the Mohawk River Valley dolostone in the late 18th century. Geologists discovered exposed dolostone in Herkimer County outcroppings and began mining there, leading to the "Herkimer diamond" moniker. Double-point quartz crystals may be found in sites around the world, but only those mined in Herkimer County can be given this name.

A typical Herkimer diamond has 18 facets: six upper, middle, and lower facets.  They are also known for being very bright and incredibly clear, although they can also come in other rare formation and colors.

"Nebula Sigil -100% .999 Silver, 89KT Labradorite

This is part of my new series of jewelry using sterling silver wire and silver soldering. Made with .999 sterling silver wire, a beautiful high karat Labradorite stone, tumbled for polish, shine and durability.

A natural Labradorite (extremely rare purple hues) is set inside layers of .999 silver. A very modern and unique piece - a completely original design and only one available.

Pendant is approximately 3.2" inches tall and 2.6" inches wide at the top. Labradorite is 89KT around 36mm set inside the sterling silver setting. My process includes hammering, silver soldering, and antiquing.

Completely handmade with .999 silver wire with a vintage style silver plated chain (18" inches long or 24" long - chain is adjustable) with antiqued silver tag. Hand polished to a mirror finish."

"Stunning statement piece! Edgy, bold, and dramatic...yet elegant! The Labradorite (2" x 1 1/4" at widest) that I used is drop dead gorgeous with it's amazing rainbow colors and bright fire. I paired it with a beautiful Opal ( 9mm x 7mm) that has bright multi colored fire. This Opal has much more color in person. It has a full spectrum of colors. The two gems paired together create a dramatic impact. Both are bezel set in shiny 14kt gold fill to a hammered and shaped Bronze background. I have oxidized the metal to bring out the detail, create texture, and give the piece an antique look. 14kt gold fill scroll detail at top.
